Abstract

An industrial hygiene programme in a plant manufacturing vinyl chloride monomer and 1.2-dichloroethane includes continuous recording of concentrations of the contaminants present in the working environment and determination of the doses received by the workers. The data collected are used to eliminate .the emission sources and those referring to an extended period of time, which yield a reliable picture of the quality of the working environment, serve for evaluating occupational health hazard for each worker. Only with the help of such follow-up methods is it possible to realize a programme of control which permits a threshold limit value-time weighted average concentration of 1 ppm vinyl chloride in the working environment.
