Abstract

After the Croatian-Hungarian Agreement in 1860, the
inland Croatia with Slavonia ceased to be under the jurisdiction
of the Austrian administration, and obtained autonomy
from Hungary i n i t s i nternal af fairs, educalional
system, questions related to religion, and judicature. Thus,
there was no o f f i c ially appointed inspectorof ancient
>nonuments anymore, such as I»an Kukuljević Sakcinski.
In 1969, the Country Government was established including
a Department of Interna/ Affairs with a D>vision of Constvuction.
In 1869, the Division published a book/et entitled
High Buildings in the Kingdom of Croatia and Slavonia,
Erccted from 1874 >rati/ the End of 1895. Within the scope
of its activities, the Division of Religion and Education
»»as also engaged in the protection of hi storical monun>ents.
Repair of c h u r ches,extension of g r aveyavds, and
interior decoration of schools and churches were subject to the authorities themselves.
