Abstract

Oskar Nfemon, a sculptor, is almost con>plete/y fanzeless
urithin the Croatian and Yugoslav ar t . As a young
sculptor recommended by I>an Meštrović, he left the country
as early as 1924, first going to Vienna and then to Brussels,
u here he graduated front the Academy of Visual Arts.
In the eve of World War II, he moved to England, u>here he
died. As an extremely gifted sculptor, he made a distinguished
career, first in Belgi«m u'ithin the circle of surrealists,
and thereafter in England as a portraitist of we//-knou n
figures.
who lived and u >orked, and became famous and respected
abroad, but have been completely forgotten in their home
country they loved so much. The study of his u'orks of art
provides an opportunitv and imposes a duty to evaluate his
opus and i>zcovporate it znto the body of our ar t history to
an adequate extent and in a pvoper manner. Thus, the study
and evaluation of this opus svilI acquire its full sense and
lusti fication.
