Abstract

Avt colonies are creatvie organisms formed as a
specificity the post-uar development of visual art cul ture
in Voivodina. They appeared in the f i rst hal f of 1960ies,
initially representing the ver y focus of a r t isti c activities
~here cultural needs and habits u'ere developed. Soon
after that,h ouever, conceptual diferences emerged among
them, but recently their number has been on a constant
increase, imposing the question of j u st i fiabilily of t h ei r
cxistence. Some of the colonies have no distinct character,
thus elici ti >xg no esthetic-socialized i >n pact upon thei r
environment. In contrast, the colonies uit h cveative programs
of thei r a uthentic activities l ive mor e vi vidl y and
fully. The spi r i tual and p vactical balance of successful
colonies front 1952 fo our days can be summarized as
fo(lo~s: promotion of modem visual art creativity, foundation
of valuable collectio>xs through repurchase and gifts,
and fonnation of galleries fvo>n the very organisms of the colonies.
