Abstract

To estimate the body burden of gaseous fluorides and fluoride particles in conditions of occupational exposure du-ring the electrolytic extraction of aluminium measurements of personal exposure to fluorides (separately to gaseous fluorides and to fluoride particles) and of fluoride urinary content were conducted in a group of 159 occupationally exposed workers and in a control group over a period of seven years. The urinary content of fluorides in exposed workers was significantly higher than in the control group. The fluoride level in urine before work and the difference in fluoride levels before and after work were in good correlation with the levels of gaseous fluorides to which the workers had been exposed.
