Abstract
Quality assurance and improvement systems have become an indispensable and important part of every educational institutions in Europe and Croatia. The early days of their development were typically marked by activities aimed at evaluating the quality of teaching and teachers' work, which was followed by those aimed at evaluating and improving other aspects of these institutions' activities. Despite their initial successes and constant growth, the results of a short survey aimed at exploring the attitudes of teachers working at the Faculties of Humanities, Social and Educational Sciences in Croatia towards quality assurance and improvement systems indicate that these teachers have rather critical views on them. Hence, in the future it will be important to further nurture the culture of quality evaluation, continuously seeking to improve the existent methods and to develop novel methods of evaluating and improving the quality of different aspects of work within our universities and faculties. In this process, it is important to keep in mind that miraculous results should not be expected without the constant consideration of this system's purpose and the consequences of its implementation, as well as a critical stance towards its workings.
