IMPACT OF PERSONAL AND ORGANIZATIONAL VALUES CONGRUENCE ON ORGANIZATIONAL COMMITMENT: COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF CROATIAN COMPANIES

Abstract

In contemporary business conditions, the importance of key elements of organizational behavior is increasing, and in particular the value dimension and its role in business. A particularly interesting question relates to the congruence between personal and organizational values as a prerequisite for organizational commitment, with the ultimate goal of increasing company’s performance. This paper therefore presents the results of a study conducted on a sample of Croatian companies with the aim of determining to what extent incongruence between personal and organizational values affects the level of organizational commitment. The results indicate that employees with lower level of discrepancy between personal and organizational values show higher level of organizational
commitment. It was also found that the impact of congruence between personal and organizational values is most visible at normative component of organizational commitment, which was not expected considering the economic situation in Croatia.
