Abstract

Perfect workers’ self-management requires certain social presuppositions, such as abolition of vertical (social) division of labour, and of an opposition between social production and political administration. The system of self-management that is realized in Yugoslavia is far from the abolition of those two aspects of the division of society. The article deals with the possibility of introducing self-determination and decision making on the level of a workplace, using the experiences of the socio-tehnical approach. However, it is obvious that socio-technical change in itself cannot seriously threaten the established relation of power. It just renders possible the application of a real self-management on the level of production, other desireable social changes being left for an (uncertain) future.
