Abstract

Diplomatički zbornik I. (Diplomatic Collection I, et. al.) contains much onomastic data, especially regarding personal names. It includes 175 documents of varied content, which originated in the years 743 to 1100. In them I encountered 62 first names and explained their meaning. I added in passing 19 more at which I arrived indirectly, that is, through old surnames and names of inhabited places derived from personal names. In interpreting these names and explaining their meanings I used a comparative method that the contemporary state of Slavic name and surname formation makes possible. In arranging the excerpted names I have not used the time at whieh they were recoreded but rather alphabetical order.
