Abstract

The influence of blood pH on the stability of fluoroapatite

Keywords

Fluoroapatlte stability; at different pH values of blood; was investigated in rabbits treated with fluoride (20 mg F-/kg body weight; daily) for 30 days. The results indicate that in conditions of acidosis; caused experimentally by ammonium chloride; and of alkalosis; induced by sodium bicarbonate; fluoride level in plasma is significantly increased because of the mobilization of deposited fluoride. The mobilization of the previously stored fluoride was more pronounced in alkalosis; but a significant increase of plasma fluoride was also observed in acidosis
