Abstract
The mutagenic activity of Pb2+, Mn2+, Ni2+ and Cd2+ was tested by the method of sister chromatid exchanges (SCE). The results show that in the given experimental conditions lead and nickel did not cause any significant change in the SCE rate, while manganese, depending on the dose, increased the number of exchanges. Cadmium exerted a marked mutagenic action. At the end of a 2-hour incubation of V79 Chinese hamster cells even the lowest tested cadmium concentration brought about the doubling of SCE.
