Acute poisonings treated in the medical centre in Štip from 1974 till 1978

Abstract
The paper is a review of 173 cases of acute poisoning treated in the Department for Internal Diseases of the Medical Centre in Štip in a five-year period (1974-1978). Most of the poisoned patients were young people under 35 years of age. Intentional and suicidal poisoning was more often present among women while accidental poisoning was more characteristic of men. Poisoning was mainly caused by various medicaments and agricultural chemicals, very rarely by carbon monoxide, fungi or household chemicals. Five poisonings (2.89%) had a lethal issue.
