The New Regulation of Agricultural Land Consolidation in Croatia
Ivan Malenica
Abstract
The consolidation of agricultural land represents a complex, interdisciplinary, agro-technical measure whose aim is not only to merge agricultural land, but also to put property law and other land-related relationsin order. By conducting land consolidation, the state performs an authoritative intervention in the property rights of subjects to limit or withdraw these righs by merging small and fragmented land areas into larger and more regular parcels, thus achieving more economical exploitation and the creation of more favourable conditions for agricultural activities. The new Consolidation of Agricultural Land Act introduces a completely new concept of a mechanism for land consolidation, thus allowing, after nearly 25 years, new land consolidation procedures to begin, which are to represent the driving force for the development of agriculture in Croatia.
