CANCER AND HYPERPLASIA OF ENDOMETRIUM IN PATIENTS AT HEALTH CARE HOME BENKOVAC Preliminary results

Abstract

Objective. To examine the frequency of abnormal uterine bleeding, the number of uterine curettage and to analyze the pathohistological findings at the predominantly rural area of Health Care Home Benkovac, Croatia. To examine in which age the irregular bleeding appears, how many of patients did use the hormone replacement therapy and to establish eventually the connection of hormone replacement therapy to pathohistological finding. Material and method. At the area of Health Care Home Benkovac there are 6627 women, the 2588 of them over 15 years are registered at the Health Care Home. Among them the 14 women presented because of irregular uterine bleeding. All have been submitted to uterine curettage. Results. The mean age of 14 patients was 58.37 years. The endometrial cancer was established in 6 of them: 1 in the age group of 50–59, 3 with 60–69 and 2 in the age over 70 years; the mean age of patients with endometrial cancer was 70,1 years. Hyperplasia simplex was diagnosed in 2 patients: the one in the age of 40–49, the another with the age 50–59; the mean age was 55,0 years. The hyperplasia simplex was diagnosed in one patient, in the age group 40–49 years, her age was 50 years. The endometrial atrophy or normal endometrium were found in 5 examinees. Among the 14 patients with metrorrhage and curettage, the hormone replacement therapy was used in 4, whereas 10 of them did not use: 5 had endometrial cancer, 2 hyperplasia, 1 atrophy and 2 normal endometrium. Conclusion. It is confirmed that the endometrial cancer is more often in women with advanced age and in those who do not use the hormone replacement therapy. Our results are on the small specimen and we continue the research.
