Abstract

The Technical Museum in Zagreb has become a central advisory museum for museums of science and technology in Croatia which makes its responsibility for collecting, restoring and presenting technical heritage bigger than before. Museum staff is yet to go through professional training for systematic field work with the purpose of finding valuable museum objects but also about to engage in professional and scientific activities on the documentation and research of collected items.

By establishing cooperation regarding the mentioned activities with related and other institutions in Croatia and abroad and publishing obtained results, the museum will become more present in museum and scientific community that promote heritage protection.
Related to that, further increase in budget and number of employees at the museum’s Department for restoration and preparation will enable its growing into a national centre for restoration and protection of technical cultural heritage.

Special attention has been given to research, restoration and presentation of big scale items from the museum’s holding as one of the priorities of museum profession. The items in question are valuable exhibits which deserve to be included in the list of cultural goods of national importance. The ship engine Napier Deltic D 18-IIB-A (TM 3204) and aircraft Fizir FNH, 9002/YU (TM 4067) attest to the museum’s responsibility about preservation of cultural goods following prescribed regulations.
