CLINICAL EVALUATION OF THE PEDIATRIC AND ADOLESCENT GYNECOLOGY IN UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL OSIJEK

Abstract

The aim of the paper is to present the experience of the Division of pediatric/adolescent gynecology at the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology University Hospital Osijek. Results. In the period 2002–2005 were examined and treated 147 young patients: 2.0% of patients were newborns, 26.5% were in the age 1–8, 24.4% in 8–10, 30.6% in the age 11–14 and 14.2% were adolescents. The cause for treatment was: menstrual cycle or other endocrinological disorder in 51, juvenile metrorrhagy and hypermenorrhoe in 16, infections and/or pruritus in 14, pubertal disorders in 20, vulvovaginal injuries in 7 (5 vulvar lacerations/contusions and 2 intracoital lacerations), genital anomalies in 7, labial synechias and newborn’s mucohematocolpos in 6, breast disorders in 7; benign neoplasias were diagnosed in 13, 12 of them were operated. Conclusion. Positive experience of the Division does demonstrate the need of its existence at a tertiary gyneco-logic-obstetric center.
