Abstract

In this review the role of rumen functions in feeding ruminants is elaborated. lmplementation of the most recent research research is shown concerning the optimalization of end products of digestion (volatile fatty acids in the rumen, glucose, amino acids and fatty acids in the small intestine, ammonia and gas production in the rumen) in practical feeding of poligastric animals. Possible ways of implementing biotechnology in advancing utilization of feedstuffs are also suggested.
