Abstract

The topic of this article is sinodality as a gift and a task. The perspective of reflection is the transcendental foundation of sinodality and its context is European society. Since interpretations of the term sinodality always start from the fact that it comes from the Greek term sýnodos, which literally means »walking together«, i.e. activity of more persons directed towards the same goal, the first part of the article points out the essence of conciliar ecclesiology, the relation between communio ecclesiology and sinodality. This relation necessarily points towards the transcendental foundation of sinodality. Hence, this foundation is the theme of the second part of this article, in which the author starts from the transcendental origin of dialogical structure of the human being and the dialogical character of the Christian revelation. The context of reflection of this topic is European. This is why in the third part the author points out uncertain ecclesial affiliation on the European continent as the fundamental characteristic of the context of reflection (Sitz im Leben). This characteristic of the European continent demands new evangelisation and sinodality is a precondition of its success. Sinodality as a task is the focal point of the fourth part of the article, entitled »Sinodality and Prophecy in the Contemporary European Society«.
