Abstract

One of the factors for a successful and stable rapeseed production is high quality and timeliness of sowing. In order to investigate the influence of sowing date on yield and yield components of current rapeseed cultivars and hybrids, the experiment was set up on the experimental field of Faculty of Agriculture University of Zagreb during 2009/10 year. Due to insufficient rainfall, in the first sowing date there was achieved a lower percentage of germination and a smaller number of plants per m2 at harvest compared to the second sowing date. In the first sowing date (28 August) significantly greater number of pods per plant, the greater length of the pods and higher seed yield per plant were achieved compared to the second sowing date (September 4). Investigated cultivars and hybrids were significantly different in yield and yield components. A large number of varieties and hybrids achieved the same result because the differences are within the statistical tolerance.
