Abstract

One of the key aspects of support for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities, IDD, are
interventions for decreasing problem behaviours. Comprehensive system of support for persons with IDD
and their families in reducing problem behaviours and treating mental health conditions is still not in place
in Croatia. Interventions and procedures based on the behavioural approach have strong scientific base
and are used for decades to support persons with problem behaviour and IDD. In this paper evidence
based procedures of functional assessment of problem behaviour and interventions for reducing problem
behaviours are presented. Implications for further research are stated.
