Abstract

Apple is one of the most important fruit species, and it is accessible on the market throughout all year. Consumers have been paying attention to the quality of the fruit and the method of manufacture much more than before. Thinning of flowers and fruits of apple is important to achieve market quality fruit. It is carried out by chemical means or by hand. In addition to achieving optimum fruit quality, fruit thinning improves the differentiation of buds for the next vegetation. This paper compares the advantages and disadvantages of mechanical, chemical thinning of flowers and fruits of apple with emphasis on environmentally friendly tools and procedures.
