Abstract

The paper describes the production and seed processing of sugar- beet in KWS company, Germany. Present- day species of sugar- beet are characterized with high germinativeness and high energy of germination, which results in smaller consumption of seed per acre and a higher production of sugar per acre. The production of seminal sugar- beet for KWS is carried out in almost ideal climatic conditions in France and Italy by the method of seed production from replanted plants and the method of seed production by direct sowing. The produced, primarily refined seed of sugar- beet is delivered to the seed processing center in Einbeck, Germany, where it is further processed. Together with classic methods of seed processing, the new EPD (Early Plant Development) method of seed processing was developed in KWS and it enables a quicker starting growth of beet and an equable system.
