Abstract
The object of this study was to determine the influence of grassing in orchard on some chosen chemical and microbial characteristics of soil. On April 2000 soil samples were taken from 3 layers (0.02 – 0,1 m; 0.1 – 0.2 m; 0.2 – 0.3 m) of grassed and non-grassed field of apple orchard. The parameters studied included: oxidizable C (Cox), total N(Nt), biomass C of soil microorganisms (Cmic), microbial activity measured as soil respiration (CO2 evolution) and dehydrogenase activity. The studied chemical parameters were influenced by grassing different, according to depth of soil profile. The biomass C values and CO2 production of grassed alternate rows were 2.5 to 3 times, and 1.5 to 3 times, respectively, higher than those non-gassed. Cmic, CO2 production as well as Cox and Nt decrease with decreasing depth. Dehydrogenase activity were unmeassurable in the all no-grassed variants, however, its increasing was observed after glucose addition. The soil in either grassed and non-grassed alternate rows has shown high potential respiration activity especially in deeper layers of the soil profile (0.2 – 0.3 m).
