Abstract
The results of simultaneous measurements of 24-hour concentrations of sulphur dioxide in the indoor and outdoor atmosphere performed at several different sites in the Zagreb area are presented. A statistically significant difference between indoor and outdoor concentrations was obtained at all sites (P<0.01). The percentage range of indoor concentrations of sulphur dioxide as compared with the outdoor concentrations amounted to 4.5-32.9% (ẋ = 12%) for the measuring sites without air conditioning (windows mostly closed) and to 63.0-74.7% (ẋ = 68.8%) for the measuring sites with air conditioning. Consequently, in epidemiological studies to obtain an objective assessment of the population exposure, it is necessary to take into account the time spent in closed premises or outdoors.
