Abstract

This paper deals with the students’ intercultural attitudes and their world music preferences. We studied the relationship between students’ intercultural attitudes and world music preferences, the impact of their year of study on intercultural attitudes and world music preferences and the impact of the performing medium on these preferences. As a part of the research, a socio-demographic questionnaire, The Munroe Multicultural Attitude Scale Questionnaire and the sound questionnaire were administered. The results confirm the existence of a relationship between some aspects of intercultural attitudes and world music preferences. Also, significant differences can be seen in some aspects of intercultural attitudes and world music preferences with regard to the year of study. In this research students showed higher preferences of vocal-instrumental, in relation to instrumental music. The author suggests implementing a bigger number of courses during the secondary and higher education that affect the formation and development of students’ intercultural attitudes.
