Abstract
Bombardiers of the Republic’s military were organised in the confraternity of St Barbara, the statute of which was confirmed in 1509. The original, however, has not survived. The copy of the recently discovered statute from 1697, filed at the State Archives of Dubrovnik, is presented. Since the recruitment of bombardiers was among the responsibilities of the government, the work of the confraternity was closely supervised by the state. The confraternity was headed by ghestaldo, accompanied by the judges, procuratori, degaldi, scrivener, ensign, etc. Most statute provisions regulate the election procedure for confraternity functions, membership rights and obligations, and to a lesser extent the social and charitable activities of the confraternity.
