Abstract

The review deals with the chemical and toxicological aspects of aflatoxin which is produced mainly by Aspergiilus flavus and seems to be one of the carcinogenic agents. In acute exposure aflatoxin can produce bleeding, necrosis and fatty infiltration of the liver. In chronic exposure it can cause liver cirrhosis. Examples of induction of carcinogenesis by aflatoxin are reported with reference to its role in the development of malignant hepatomas.
