Abstract

Within the thematic subunit of A3: Settlements as part of the Strategy for Scientific Research 2014-2019 of the Institute of Archaeology in Zagreb, systematic research into the prehistoric Nova Bukovica - Sjenjak site near Slatina continued during August and September 2015. The research has been financially supported by Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia and Nova Bukovica Municipality. In 2015, 926 m2 was covered by the research. In terms of the area excavated and explored, 2015 was the most fruitful research season in the history of archaeological research at Nova Bukovica. The total site area researched now measures 4,590 m2. Previously defined parts of infrastructure for both prehistoric settlements were detected in 2015: postholes – remains of an overground structure, smaller and larger waste pits, settlement layer. However, entirely new types of archaeological structures were also found, such as dug in hearths.
The most significant find of 2015 is a complex overground structure with four rows of dug in vertical wooden beams, which represents an important, if not a crucial element in the reconstruction of the late Bronze Age settlement. New architectural elements of the early Iron Age settlement were also discovered, as well as abundant mobile archaeological finds. This paper presents the most relevant finds to the wider public for the first time.
