Abstract

The Institute of Archaeology in collaboration with the Department of Archaeology at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb and Archaeological Museum in Zagreb, conducted the second phase of a systematic field survey in Upper Podravina. The survey was conducted as a part of a student study program at the Department of Archaeology. The two-week field survey covered the entire Transect 2 – Sigetec route, as well as four positions along the Transect 1 – Hlebine. Consequently, the incomplete results of last year's research that had been affected by bad weather, have been completed. A total of 383 locations on 11 positions along Transects 1 and 2 were inspected, and 7 individual archaeological features were documented. Preliminary analysis of the collected data indicates a more intense presence of Modern Age material along the entire Transect 2, and at the same time, relatively sparse distribution of Roman and Medieval material. It can also be noted that distribution of Bronze Age material, which appears relatively frequently, clearly correlates with geomorphological features of the terrain. The comparison in distribution of Antique and medieval material discovered this year with last year's research results could bring significant insight into the land use patterns of the area in question during these time periods.
