Abstract

The results of comparative toxicological investigations of methyl, ethyl and methoxy-ethyl mercury compounds are presented. The differences in absorption, distribution and elimination of each group of compounds as well as specificities in the clinical picture of poisoning are pointed out. Based on the long-term field experience the author concludes that occupational exposure to organomercurial fungicides can be maintained within safe limits. This can be achieved by appropriate technological, protective and medical control measures.
