Abstract

The vision of 946 factory workers (371 females and 575 males) was examined using an orthorater. The purpose of examination was to assess the adequacy of vision in employed workers as compared with the standards given by Lomb Occupational Research of Purdue-Kuhn. The vision of examined workers was tested for acuity, depth for colours and phorias. Visual defects were found in 65.5% of males and 59.0% of females. The most frequently found were abnormal colour perception (24.5%), deficient depth (22.6%) and reduced acuity of near vision (20.5%). The results are discussed from the point of view of age, sex and occupation and significant differences between the groups are pointed out.
