Abstract

Monitoring, evaluating and the work development quality in institutions for early and pre-school education should be an ongoing process that carries out procedures for evaluation and self-evaluation.
The aim of this research is to determine the existence and direction of progress in the work of West Herzegovina Canton preschool institutions for the purpose of improving the quality of education.
The quality of the educational process is monitored via standards which are operationalized by indicators that are applied in institutions of early and pre-school education in the Republic of Croatia and the Republic of Srpska. Results of the respondents indicate that all children are treated as equally important, the rights of children and adults are respected and it has been evident that a positive and spontaneous atmosphere is fostered in groups which are open to communication. Also, it is considered that the design and implementation of the educational process should involve parents
and representatives of the local community more. These results indicate that higher intensity should be focused on the process of monitoring and evaluation in preschool institutions in the West
Herzegovina Canton.
