Abstract

Calepitrimerus vitis is an important and common eriophyd mite in many vineyards of several different regions worldwide. Large populations of grape rust mites were associated with spring leaf and shoot distortions and retarded growth in emerging green tissue as well as late summer leaf bronzing and crop losses. In severe cases growers reported complete crop losses due to the abortion bunches. Medjimurje grape region showed the association between the average density of the eriophyd mite population and a series of factors, such as: sensitive variety (sauvignon, riesling italian, silvaner, furmint), specific microclimate, crop system, plantation age, density of the useful entomofauna (Typhlodromus), etc. Pre-bud burst spray of acaricide (fenazakvin) is allowed in Croatian grape production (IPM) for chemical control of eriophyd mite. The results obtained on working variant in 2010 and 2011 demonstrate high efficacy of sulphur at 3 % and 4 % concentration to reduce grape rust mites with only 200 liter solution per hectare.
