Abstract

Social and political changes in the contemporary world are inevitably reflected on the language, the means of human communication. Among all linguistic levels, the lexical one undergoes more changes than the others. The media language (radio, TV, daily press) is under heavy and direct (ideological) influence of social trends, while on the other hand, it represents an influence in itself, which goes beyond the media communication. The 1990's in Croatia were marked by great and important changes, some of which were reflected in the Croatian language. This paper demonstrates the lexical aspect of this process within the language of the media.
