Abstract

The results of noise measurements performed in the cabins of dump trucks »Euclid«, »Haulpack« and »Dart« and of otorhinolaryngological examinations and audiometric test in 199 dump truck drivers are presented. The mean age of the drivers was 33,1 years, their average driving experience being 10,1 years. It was found that the intensity of noise in »Euclid« and »Haulpack« trucks, both unloaded and loaded, exceeds the permissible level, while noise intensity in »Dart« truck remains within normal values. In 46,2 percent of the drivers examined traumatic hearing impairment of occupational etiology was established. It was also concluded that the percentage and the degree of acoustic traumas are directly dependent upon the age and length of driving experience except in some cases when they can be explained by individual sensitivity to noise.
