Abstract

Forty years ago, in Gornja Stubica, Josip Broz Tito opened the Museum of the Peasant Revolts and unveiled the monumental memorial by Antun Augustinčić to the Peasant Revolt and Matija Gubec. There were more than 70,000 people at the opening. Imagined initially as a memorial complex with a permanent display and accompanying contents mainly for tourist purposes, in time the Museum has turned into an institution which in its work makes an essential contribution to the arts and culture in its area.
