Abstract

In this paper an overview of the available Digital Terrain Models (DTM) on internet and comparison of existing DTM4x5 on the territory of Croatia with the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM3) DTM is given. DTM4x5 (resolution of 4 arc seconds in latitude direction and 5 arc seconds in longitude direction) and SRTM3x3 (3 arc seconds resolution in latitude and longitude direction) digital terrain models are compared further with the heights from the data base of trigonometric points as well as with the heights of the benchmarks of the Second Leveling of the High Precision. The comparison of data from several bathymetry sources for the Adriatic Sea area is made too. At the end the methodology of establishing the final DTM data files created through the adequate combination of SRTM3, DTM4x5, worldwide Smith&Sandwell bathymetry derived from satellite altimetry and depths obtained by digitizing the bathymetry map of Adriatic Sea, which will be used in future computations for the necessity of physical geodesy, is described.
