Abstract

The introductory part of the paper presents a brief outline of the development of the Croatian chemistry terminology, which was particularly encouraged in the second half of the 19th century, in accordance with the objectives of the Croatian National Revival and the development of natural sciences. The discussions on chemistry terminology and the classification of compounds (nomenclature) in the period 1927-1953 show that despite years long efforts, no agreement was reached in that period. The Croatian chemists, working together with the Croatian linguists, have before them the task of formulating their own register.
