Abstract

From the aspect of political philosophy, 16th century was a landmark century in which, after the medieval period, politics was reaffirmed as an areaof human activity and life. The political thought of the 16th century was concentrated on the creation and analysis of a new form of political community – state, which is, as a completely new form of human integration, wholly the product of the Modern Age, especially the political theorists of the 16th century. Therefore the contribution of many political thinkers of that time to the analysis and to the theory of the state was extremely important, but in terms of the reach of political ideas and their influence on later political theorists Nicollò Machiavelli, with the formulation of state and modern understanding of politics and its science, Jean Bodin, with the notion of sovereignty, and Thomas More, with a specific utopian way and frame of avant-garde thinking stand out. Renaissance political orders, especially those on the Apennine Peninsula in the form of aristocratic and democratic republics as types of states, seized the attention of European political theorists, as well as other intellectual groups. Marin Držić also saw the significance of the political ideas of the time, as a dramatist and author in his works, but also through practical political activities, which testified to the fact that his opus transcends the boundaries of literature and drama, and can be found in the political thought, especially that of Machiavelli, Bodin and More.
