Abstract

Certain ideas about recycling and saving materials in the preparation of educational actions and workshops in Virovitica Municipal Museum came in as a result of the private commitment of individuals. In their little museum collective, they affected each other by suggesting healthier and greener solutions. We managed to transmit particular points of view about life and a code of conduct, in this case about nature, to the working environment. In the very first proposals “green” was approved in both the museum’s programming and in its financing. In 2012 we had several museum workshops and actions using only recycled materials. We set off from less complex and demanding actions – from the continuous organisation of educational workshops, which proved to pay off very well, above all because of the financing of such extra museum programmes, and then because of the good feeling of the participants precisely because they were using recycled materials. In the future Virovitica Museum is seen
as a place for the further development of a positive attitude towards the protection of the environment. Educational and exhibition
activity in its practical part will still be oriented to the re-use and recycling of materials and to natural and usable materials. There will be an endeavour to promote green ideas, to be educated and develop new ways in which museums can guide and harmonise their engagement with ecological ideas and develop sensitivity for the preservation of nature.
