Abstract

In 2013 Friends of the Heritage carried out a new campaign entitled Right to a Museum, in the context of which a civil petition was organised and signed, carried out in the field and online, via the Internet site of the Association Prijatelji baština-Amici Hereditatis. The results of the petition were presented to the public and to the city authorities in May, on the occasion of International Museum Day. Many will say that the times are not propitious for the founding of a museum – but they did not found one even in better times. Perhaps it would be worth thinking about whether the general impoverishment of society came about because of the spiritual poverty that resulted from the unscrupulous amassing of wealth by some at the expense of others. But investment in culture always raises the spiritual level – including among people who find it too expensive to go to cultural events even in relatively close Zagreb. The experiences of many small European and world museums show that wise investments in the heritage of the local community always bring manifold and lasting benefits to the community. Friends of the Heritage believe that this can be achieved even in Ivanić Grad.
