Abstract
Abstract
The Croatian poet and philosopher of arts Rajmund Kupareo (1914-1996) in his esthetic analyses proposes that essential features of art can only be revealed from a personal experience of the artwork that communicates emotions, by the means of content and aspirations expressed in artistic symbols. According to Kupareo – the arts reflect on fundamental human values in an original and inimitable manner, by which the artist creates a new artistic order based on temporal (asynchronicity) and spatial separation (“asynkhorism”, Kupareo’s neologism), resulting in an esthetic experience of space and time through three types of art: words, lines and movement. In the creation of a disconnected time and space, the artist transforms the fundamental functions of time and space into a higher axiological order. Here the emotions and thoughts become supra-temporal and supra-spatial, indicating the human aspiration for the eternal and the everlasting. Such an artistic creation leads to symbolical multilayered art which is manifested as an enigma. Kupareo stresses that education in arts helps the mental efforts necessary for the solution of this enigma, becoming the foundation of a thorough understanding and competent interpretation of artwork.
