Abstract
The Michael condensation of 3-aryl-l-ferrocenyl-2-propene-1-ones with diethyl malonate gave diethyl (1-aryl-3-ferrocenyl-3 oxopropyl)malonates. The alkaline hydrolysis of these products
gave the corresponding dicarboxylic acids which were decarboxylated
to the title compounds. 3-Aryl-5-ferrocenyl-5-oxovaleric acids were cyclized by trifluoroacetic anhydride to 4-aryl-6-ferrocenyl- 3,4-dihydro-2-pyrones
