Abstract

The paper presents a performed hydraulic analysis of water levels and discharges measured at two hydrological stations which register water flow through a morphologically very complex system of Skradinski Buk on the Krka River. At the station Skradinski Buk Gornji, which measures the total water inflow to the waterfall, water levels have been measured from 1923 to the present time, with an interruption in the period from 1941 - 1946, whereas the flows were measured in the period 1947 - 2015. The paper processes data on the water levels and flows in the period 1947- 2015. At the water gauging station National Park, water levels and flows were measured from 1990 to 2015. A part of the total water quantity flowing to the waterfall is diverted through a tunnel, an open canal and then a pressure pipeline to the HPP Jaruga. Due to its morphology, the left part of the waterfall is significantly more water abundant than its right part. In the period 1990 - 2015, the mean annual discharge at the water gauging station Skradinski Buk Gornji equalled 48.9 m3 s-1, while at the downstream station National Park it amounted to 20.6 m3 s-1. The paper aims to perform a detailed, exclusively hydrological analysis of the Skradinski Buk phenomenon by using available data. The use of reliable hydrological information is of key interest for obtaining an insight in the manner in which diverting a part of water from the waterfall affects its ecological system and its long-term stability.
