Abstract

This article deals primarily with questioning the political and cultural modernization in the light of thematization of
identity, in terms of significant revisions of modernization theories along with the simplest but multidimensional
definition of the modernization concept.
It deals with the key points of the two dimensions of modernization, trying to point out the importance of identity changes
in this context. It is obvious that in recent theoretical analysis of modernization, even when very generalized, political and
cultural components of identity construction are always taken into consideration, as they have a great impact on the
character and reach of the modernization processes.
The article also questions the problematic framework globalization/ transition/ identity. In this framework, the main
viewpoints on globalizations have been set, the globalization reflexes on transition social situation have been studied and
the conclusions on the presence and impact of identity question have been made. It is shown that globalization and
transition did not suspend but even reinforced the importance of the identity question. In other words, the consciousness
of the contemporary social science that modernization in general, as well as its globalization circle and transition forms,
cannot be properly understood if the crucial question of identity is not taken into consideration, comes into the first place.
