Abstract

In the static problems of standing postures at work the following main questions should be taken into consideration:
1. Venous return of the blood from the lower extremities,
2. Feet weakness or flat feet development, and
3. Static oedema.
In the present paper, the author deals in detail with the first question, i. e. the venous return. The physiology of the venous return from the lower extremities especially in motion and various kinds of standing postures have been explained. Special attention has been paid to the compressive effect of the muscle contraction. Standing postures at work, owing to the reduced activity of the lower extremities muscles, have a negative effect on the venous return. Decreased blood circulation causes functional hypoxia of muscles and thus plays an important role in the pathogenesis of flat feet.
