Abstract
In ecumenical conversations among the Christian Churches,
the Mother of Jesus and her role in the history of salvation poses
certain obstacles. This is especially true in the question of veneration
of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which is not equally present
and practiced among the Churches. Through the organization
of roundtables of ecumenical dialogue, the International Mariological
Congresses are trying to examine whether the Mother
of Jesus and various Marian devotions present obstacles to the unity of Christians. The results of these meetings and discussions
are the ecumenical declarations, which are collected and
published for the first time in this article and by their significance
delineated. On these exchanges the participants of various Christian
Churches discovered many common grounds on Mary’s role
in the history of salvation and in the communion of saints, which
was much more than they had expected.
