Abstract

From the first stories of La grande Eulalia up to the late Mi ricordo, Paola Capriolo’s narrative production analyses the dark sides of the human mind by turning to both Myth and Art as privileged channels to comply with mystery. Every time she develops the great metaphor of the world as a theatre or penetrates into the recesses of the pained psyche, Paola Capriolo provides us with “identity tales”, meaning the bewilderment or loss of consciousness. Starting from the novel Una di loro, the topic of the ‘holy’ guest (the issue of the foreigner who brings salvation or threat) mingles with the revival of the mythical code. The latter is produced through formal patterns stemming from the Great Narrations of tradition (the modern novel, epic poetry, the Bible), in order to probe the anxieties and desires of contemporary man.
