Abstract
The Croatian Firefighting Association is the head organization that integrates all firefighting organizations and units within Croatia. As such, one of its main tasks is to ensure that its members are well trained and adequately equipped. With the development of firefighting and ICT technologies, the implementation of ICT solutions into firefighting processes has proven to be of increasing importance. This paper describes the challenges and opportunities faced by the Croatian Firefighting Association, and which it continues to face, during the informatization process. The developed information systems are described in detail. These systems include VATROnet – the central database containing information about all firefighting units, members, vehicles and equipment; Interactive database of hazardous materials – database containing data on hazardous materials and their safe handling; Vehicle tracking system and GIS tools – application used to guide and track firefighters during firefighting interventions; Alerting system – application used for notifying firefighters about ongoing firefighting interventions, and, finally, the Firefighting intervention management system – the main operational tool that integrates all other systems and provides support during firefighting interventions to all levels of command.
