Fracture of the spine. Methods and results of treatment

Abstract
In treating fracture of the spine the author follows the principles of Böehler Contemporary treatment consists of reposition, retention of fragments and gymnastics. He outlines the anatomy and mechanic of the spine as well as the neurology and physiology of the spinal marrow. Further classification. symptomathology and pathological anatomy of spine injuries are given. Then the procedure and method of treatment with or without lesion of the spinal marrow, the time when reposition is necessary, duration of the fixation and instructions about the gypsum corsage. A description follows of treatment of 26 cases (14 men and 12 women) mostly between 40 and 50. 12 cases of which had fractures of pars cervical. Columnae vert, 7 cases of pars thoracal, and 7 cases pars lumbalis injuries. There were 11% lethal (exitus 2nd or 3rd day), 26% were injuries of the spinal marrow which include the death cases. 113 of the remaining cases with lesion of the spinal marrow was cured.
